VK3MO, long path

Though a long path beam was bringing Ian, VK3MO in from the landward side of the coast to my stick on the car this morning, he was nevertheless extremely strong.  There is no hint of any signal coming across via the short path:

Switching bands just a case of unscrewing one stick, and fixing another!  I've six sticks permanently in the car.

  1. Great video again John. VK3MO has indeed a great signal. Basically you use the same system as me with antenna's. The only difference is that I only change the top of the antenna. The only band that would be interesting to me and is missing here is the 40m band. I think I have to look for a good mobile antenna for that band since the DV27 base is not strong enough to hold an extra coil + a large whip. 73, Bas

    1. Yes, I'd like to try 30 and 40m when portable, too. The 6m stick I bought recently (an Ampro or clone) is resonant when the top stainless steel whip is removed completely; it's built a bit too long, actually. I would like to change to a single magnetic mount base, as the 3-mount one I have needs good upper body strength to remove! But because the whole system is working well together, I am reluctant to change it at the moment!
